Rape suspect sought in playground assault

BROWNSVILLE The crime reportedly happened in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn early Saturday morning.

According to police, the 24-year-old victim was walking home when she was approached at the corner of Bristol and Pitkin avenues by the suspect who was riding a red and silver mountain bike.

The suspect reportedly pointed a firearm at the victim, removed cash and a cell phone and forced her to follow him into Chester Playground, located a block away at Chester Street and Pitkin Avenue. There, he sexually assaulted her and fled the scene, police said.

Women who live nearby say they never venture out at night alone.

"I don't go out at night," one woman said. "I try to get my son and go straight inside the house."

The victim was treated at an area hospital.

The suspect is described as a a black man in his late 20s, 5-foot-10 to 6 feet tall and 160 to 185 pounds. He was wearing a black leather jacket, gray sweatsuit and white sneakers.
