Bandits target elderly residents in NJ

LINDEN, N.J. Investigators said on October 10 at 1:00 p.m., the suspect approached an 88 year old resident and told him he was there to check the property line in his rear yard.

The victim accompanied him for about twenty minutes. A short time later, the victim discovered his bedroom ransacked and several thousand dollars in cash taken.

The victim was able to provide a description of the suspect who accompanied him. The suspect is a white or Hispanic male, 40-50 years old, white/gray beard stubble, and wearing a navy blue hat with City of Linden Tax Department. City employees do not wear any such hats. He left in a silver club cab pickup truck.

Since the first incident, police say other elderly residents have been approached in possible similar diversion attempts.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Andrew Spano at 908-474-8537 or email crimetips@police.lindenes-nj.org.
