Yolette Charles was inconsolable after learning the worst possible news.
Relatives say four year-old Jayden Lenescar was a happy child with no history of abuse or neglect.
But he was unconscious when paramedics were called to his mother's apartment at 2:30 Friday afternoon.
The child was rushed to Kings County Hospital in cardiac arrest and died minutes later.
Sources familiar with the investigation say Jayden had bruises across much of his body, but the precise cause of his death was not immediately clear.
By early evening, NYPD homicide investigators had descended on the boy's apartment where he lived with his mother and maternal grandmother.
Both were questioned for several hours by detectives.
Relatives insisted they never saw any evidence of abuse or neglect.
