World Series wish comes true

BRONX What a way to start -- with the World Series!

Brandon had his wish granted after being diagnosed with a rare brain tumor. Now, after an incredibly tough year, he and his family enjoyed some much-deserved fun at Yankee Stadium.

"When he said the World Series, I thought that was a bigger wish than he was going to get," Michelle Hall said.

Turns out, her son Brandon's dream did come true. The Make-A-Wish Foundation flew the 14-year-old and his family to New York from their home in North Carolina to watch game 2 of the series.

"It's amazing. I've always wanted to be a Major League Baseball player and tonight I know what it's like and it's exciting for me," Brandon said.

Brandon is a huge baseball fan and was a little leaguer himself until last spring, when he collapsed on the field.

Rescuers at first thought it was heat exhaustion. Turns out, Brandon has a rare brain tumor - one of only two cases worldwide in the last fifty years.

"It happened in an instant and you just don't think it's going to happen to your child or you," his mom said.

The last sixteen months have meant big changes for the Hall family. Brandon needs a ventilator to breathe when he sleeps, and the family carries bags full of life-saving medical equipment everywhere they go.

"It's a life-altering experience when someone in your family has a traumatic illness," Stephan Hall said.

The Halls loaded their bags into a stretch limo to Yankee Stadium today, where Brandon was treated to a seat at an awards ceremony featuring Derek Jeter before his family settled into their luxury seats at the game.

"I think we really needed it, after all this time worrying about this and that, making sure everything was in place. It was nice to have it done for us," Brandon said.
