Woman attacked in Cortlandt

New York State police are looking for a suspect in an apparent attempted kidnapping and sexual assault. The incident happened in a wooded area around 11:00 Thursday night on State Route 6 near Locust Avenue in Cortlandt.

Investigators said a woman who was walking on the sidewalk was pulled into the woods by a man.

She started screaming. A Good Samaritan heard her cries and interrupted the attack.

The suspect fled on foot.

He was described as a white man, 5'6"-5'8", about 18-25 years of age, last seen wearing blue jeans, white sneakers, and a black and gray.

The State Police are asking anyone who might have information regarding this incident or who might have been in the area at the time of the incident to call in at 914-737-7171. All calls will be kept confidential.
