Retailers focus on electronics sales

NEW YORK Lisa Wilson would love to find a 27-inch flat screen TV under her tree this Christmas, but she knows she needs to be patient.

"I'm going to try to hold out and wait, if I can, to see if prices get cheaper," she said.

Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving, when shoppers start stocking up for the holidays. Experts believe the blockbuster item this year will be flat screen TVs.

"When it comes to high definition flat TV, that is epicenter of the price war right there," retail consultant Howard Davidowitz said.

We're told you can expect intense price cuts as big stores and little stores compete for the few consumers who still have money to burn.

At Kiss Electronics in Harlem, they are already slashing price tags and offering to pay the sales tax on Tuesdays.

So shoppers on Black Friday this year might find themselves in a wait-and-see game - wait for prices to drop even more, then see which store has the best deal.

"I'm hoping for more than a TV under the tree," Anita Severs said. "But it's going to have to be very good price. Budget is tight."

Even if HDTVs lead the electronic parade, and even if stores undercut each other to offer the lowest price in town, analysts warn that retailers are stocking less inventory this year. So if you wait too long, the gamble is they might run out of the TV you want.
