Water main break closes Staten Island street

Victory Boulevard expected to be closed until Thursday morning
TRAVIS Newscopter-7 was live over the scene.

Eyewitness News is told the 20-inch main broke at the intersection of Victory Boulevard and Leroy Street just before 4:30 a.m. this morning.

A large amount of water flooded the surrounding narrow local streets.

Local streets buckled under the weight of the water, and firefighters avoided driving their rigs through the flooded streets.

The break left a large creator in Victory Boulevard.

Officials closed Victory Boulevard from the West Shore Expressway to Cannon Avenue.

The S62, S92, and the X11 bus lines were diverted around the break.

DEP workers hope to have the main fixed and street reopened by tomorrow morning.

The water main is reportedly 50 years old, and age may have been a factor in the break.
