A woman, believed to be in her 40s, was struck in the northbound lanes while crossing Route 21. She was pronounced dead at University Hospital in Newark.
The incident happened around 6:20 a.m. near Bridge Street and Clay Street.
Police are looking for a black and sliver dump truck, believed to have struck the woman. It was last seen headed northbound on Route 21.
The highway was closed in both directions for more than an hour while police investigated.
