Man dies in Long Island house fire

FLORAL PARK The flames broke out in the attic of a home in Floral Park. More than 100 firefighters and emergency personnel arrived on the scene.

Firefighters pulled the body of 35-year-old John Potter from one of the bedrooms on the second floor.

Police say his parents were woken up by Potter yelling about a fire. Potter's father, Thomas, tried to climb the stairs to the second floor. But he was pushed back by the smoke and flames.

Potter was rushed to the hospital in cardiac arrest. He was pronounced dead at Winthrop-University Hospital.

Two firefighters were injured battling the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
