Seven LI schools locked down over perp search

GARDEN CITY Garden City's high school, middle school, two elementary schools and three primary schools were locked down around 11 a.m. Monday, after police notified officials of the search for a suspect.

Garden City Police Lt. Vincent Thorn said officers only advised that the high school not allow anyone in or out of the building because a suspect in an old assault case may have been seen in the area. Police believe the suspect has since fled.

He said the school district extended the lockdown out of a sense of precaution. A local nursery school also was locked down.

The lock down has since been lifted.
