Off-duty corrections officer involved in NJ shooting

An off-duty state corrections officer shot a suspect who picked the wrong person to rob in Irvington on Monday night. Eyewitness News is told the officer was held up in a parking lot at the intersection of Springfield Avenue and Grove Street just before 10 p.m.

Police say the officer traded gunfire with his would-be robber.

The suspect was shot and rushed to University Hospital in Newark in unknown condition.

The shootout is under investigation by the state Attorney General's Office.
