Uniondale body IDed as missing Queens mom

UNIONDALE Police say 39-year-old Jamaica Smith was found in a boarded-up home at 621 Kruss Street in Uniondale, and the case has been declared a homicide.

Smith has been missing since the day before Thanksgiving, last seen dropping off her 6-year-old daughter at the Laurelton School.

She was supposed to meet her sister at a home they were renovating just four blocks away, but she never showed up. Family members say when she didn't pick up her daughter at the end of the day, they knew it was something serious.

"She's an excellent mother," said Monique Vereen, Smith's niece. "She's not careless at all. We know it's foul play because she would never leave her daughter."

Smith's 14 brothers and sisters and her countless nieces, nephews and cousins are putting up and passing out fliers.

Her sister Sonia says Jamaica recently complained about a mysterious man who she said harassed her outside her daughter's school.

"He would be there every morning and every afternoon," she said. "I'll call him a stalker. He was her stalker."
