Body parts found in Washington Heights park

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS Eyewitness News is told a Parks Department employee found the human remains in the wooded area of Highbridge Park, off the Harlem River Drive.

The remains were reportedly badly decomposed, and it is believed they were in the park for an extended period of time.

Police say a torso and a head were found in the same general area, but it was not known if the parts were from the same body.

The Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy on the remains to determine the cause of death.

Highbridge Park, located on the east side of Upper Manhattan, derives its name from the High Bridge, the city's oldest standing bridge.
