Judge halts collections by NYC homeless charity

NEW YORK The court order was issued Tuesday in state Supreme Court. It bars the United Homeless Organization from soliciting donations until at least January. The judge also froze the group's assets.

The action comes after Attorney General Andrew Cuomo accused the charity of being a sham.

In a lawsuit filed last month, Cuomo's office says most of the money the group collects winds up in the pockets of its workers and founders.

The group is known for its big plastic collection jugs, set up on card tables in areas frequented by tourists.
