Abandoned puppies up for adoption

Paterson, NJ "This guy apparently left here about 3 weeks ago and left the dogs behind to die," said John DeCando of the Paterson Animal Shelter.

That's exactly what happened to the mother of the 6 puppies, her body was found in a cage outside the home.

The puppies however, survived, despite being left outside for weeks in a muddy backyard, sometimes in freezing temperatures.

They only survived thanks to the help of neighbors, who eventually noticed the dogs were never taken inside, and had no food.

"We saw the dogs out there alone for a long time, and nobody feeding them, so we tried to feed the dogs," explained neighbor Armando Escalola. The dogs are sweet as can be and are now in a Veterinarian's care.

They are being treated for worms and any other issues.

They will soon be available for adoption.

Police say the owner could face several thousand dollars in fines and possible jail time.

"We don't know where he is now, but we're going to find him. There's no reason for this at all," said DeCando.
