Service union reaches deal with Broadway theaters

NEW YORK The settlement was reached Thursday night after a marathon bargaining session.

Talks were between the local union for cleaners, porters and matrons, and the Broadway League. That's an industry group of theater owners and producers.

Hector Figueroa is secretary-treasurer of the Service Employees International Union Local 32BJ. He says the new contract begins in 2010 and will include a 6.2 percent pay raise.

It will also include Broadway League contributions to the union pension fund and continued employer-paid family health care.

The contract covers about 240 workers in more than 30 Broadway theaters.
