Water main break creates mess on UWS

UPPER WEST SIDE A 12 inch main broke near West 105th Street and Central Park West just before 1:00 a.m.

Water cascaded into the 110th Street subway station, flooding tracks.

Water also flowed onto Central Park West, causing lane closures even after the main was capped.

The southbound lane of Central Park West remained closed on Wednesday afternoon from West 106th Street to West 105th Street. Traffic is being diverted by NYPD and street cones.

Residents of three buildings at 444, 446, and 448 Central Park West had no water for several hours. Water service was restored to the buildings early Wednesday afternoon, according to the DEP.

Repairs to the street and sidewalk should be completed later today or tomorrow, officials said.

The cause of the break is under investigation.
