Two survive small plane crash on Long Island

SAYVILLE, Long Island Suffolk County police say that the single-engine plane went down a few minutes before 1 p.m. on Saturday about 30 feet from the Sayville shore.

Police say both men were taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution.

A picture showed the 1946 Stinson Voyager belly-up in the water, its front-end submerged and its tail jutting out.

Police say the plane took off from Bayport Aerodrome about 12:55 p.m. and soon had engine trouble.

The pilot attempted to put the plane down along the shore, but instead ended up crashing in the water.
