Newark Police have made an arrest for the shooting death of 55 year-old Karen Cunningham. She was struck by a stray bullet during a shooting incident outside a liquor store on 16th Avenue on Monday. Police did not find her body until the next day.

Investigators arrested Phillip Holden, aka Abdul Muslim, around 4:30 Thursday afternoon. He is charged with murder and related offenses.

The shooting investigation has been the subject of controversy because police who responded to the scene on Monday spotted shell casings on the street, but did not find the victim. Students found Cunningham dead in her car the next morning.

The professional standards unit of the Essex County Prosecutor's Office and the Newark police internal affairs division are investigating. The two responding officers have been placed onadministrative duty.
