No. 4 train service was disrupted in both directions between the Atlantic Avenue Station and the Brooklyn bridge-City Hall Station, and No. 5 trains were running on the 2 line between the Nevins Street Station and the 149th Street-Grand Concourse Station in both directions.
Normal service resumed around 5:00 p.m.
Meanwhile, as many as 15 buildings were evacuated as a precaution.
Local streets were also closed as firefighters put out the manholes. No injuries were reported.
