Pedestrian fatally struck on LIE

A pedestrian was fatally struck on the Long Island Expressway in a crash that closed the inbound lanes for hours. Eyewitness News is told the victim, a 27-year-old man, was struck on the highway near Queens Boulevard just after 1:15 a.m.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities were searching for a small gray car that fled the scene.

The westbound Long Island Expressway was closed for hours following the crash for the investigation.

The road is open again, but the investigation continues.
