1 dead, 15 hurt in Hamptons bus crash

NORTHAMPTON The Tuesday morning crash involved a Suffolk County Transit bus carrying 14 passengers. The passengers and the bus driver were taken to hospitals; their injuries were considered minor. The driver of the other vehicle was killed; he was identified as 21-year-old Michael Brown of Greenport.

The crash happened around 7:40 a.m., at the intersection of County Roads 51 and 63 near Northampton. Southampton Town Police say it appears Brown drove his compact car through a stop sign and was hit by the bus.

No criminal charges were filed, although the investigation remains open.

The rural area of Long Island is about 75 miles east of Manhattan.
