In a bizarre series of events, a suspect has ended up in the hospital after crashing a carjacked vehicle in Newark. According to authorities, Port Authority officers were on an accident scene at Route 1 and 9 northbound by Newark Airport when the driver of one of the vehicles jumped into the Port Authority patrol car.

He fled north on Route 1, striking one of the Port Authority officers and causing several accidents.

The suspect crashed that vehicle at Doremus Avenue, but then got out and carjacked a white pick-up truck.

He crashed again at Delancey and Stockton Streets in Newark shortly after 5:00 p.m. The truck flipped over.

He was taken to University Hospital with serious injuries.

Both the suspect and officer are listed in stable condition.
