Some neighbors say they didn't notice the smoke nor the flames, but they did hear a woman's voice coming from the window of the Bronxdale Housing Development. "All you heard was aaaah! It was so short," Bobby Spratley said.

A scream and a jump out of a 5th floor window to escape the fire.

The 43-year old woman broke her leg.

"They started yelling, 'Oh my God a lady jumped out of the window,'" Spratley said.

There was another man in the apartment too.

Firefighters found him in the hallway, badly burned.

"You can tell he was in the apartment when it was still burning, but firefighters came and pulled him out," Justin Morales said.

Firefigthers quickly responded to and put out the 7:00 p.m. fire.

"We believe An electrical outlet set fire to a fold out couch or a day bed," Deputy Chief Paul Mannix said.

Both victims were taken to Jacobi Hospital. The woman is going to be okay, officials said.

The man remained in serious condition on Saturday night.

Their names were not released.
