Throngs of people gathered in the streets of Chinatown in lower Manhattan to mark the start of the Lunar New Year and the start of the Year of the Tiger. A parade featured a multitude of floats and balloons. The crowd of spectators is 10-people deep.

Residents and onlookers are relieved that the New Year is starting without the shadow of a Sept. 11 trial taking place in the city.

They were concerned that the security and logistical measures required by a terror trial would put a huge hardship on the area.

The Obama administration is reconsidering a plan to put five men on trial in a federal court in Manhattan.
