Police: Manhattanville College slay linked to 'family matters'

PURCHASE, N.Y. Harrison police said a female student was killed inside a faculty staff housing building at Manhattanville College on Monday.

The young woman was the daughter of a maintenance worker at the school, sources confirmed to Eyewitness News.

An alert was sent to students in the afternoon, which advised them of the death but also said the school has been "assured by the police that this is an isolated and contained incident."

Harrison Police Capt. Anthony Marraccini says that the killing was an "isolated incident" that involves "family matters." He said officers responding to a 911 call from school security at 12:15 p.m. Monday found the student's body.

Investigators have not released any details about the crime or the name of the victim.

No one has been arrested.

In a statement, the President of Manhattanville College wrote, "We are shocked and saddened by the death today of one of our students, whose family has been part of our community for many years. Our hearts go out to all who have been touched by this loss."

Manhattanville College is located about 27 miles northeast of Manhattan. The liberal arts school has about 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students.
