Long Island cleans up after snow storm

NORTH SHORE One man on Long Island, counts himself very lucky to have a giant snow melting machine.

It can vaporize 100 tons of snow every hour.

At the Americana Mall in Manhasset, the snow vaporizing machine worked around the clock for two days, after the storm dropped a foot and a half on parts of Long Island's north shore.

Just up the road, Emanuel said he wished it could be that way at his house.

Snow plows worked miracles on Port Washington Boulevard, but it meant shutting him in.

Residents say it looks like a disaster zone in the area, and can't wait for spring.

Crews have been working continuously to rid Long Island's streets of snow after the stubborn snow storm.

However, the storm was no match for the nation's largest commuter railroad.

Workers managed to sweep and salt the snow away from the end of the Port Washington line as extra trains carried commuters on an early rush home.

By the way, due to the weather, the planned bridge replacement work on the Long Beach Branch will be canceled this weekend (February 27 & 28). Regular weekend train service will be in effect.
