1 killed, 1 wounded in Newark shooting

NEWARK, NJ Police say the shooting, which occurred just before 3 a.m., may have been spurred by a fight involving the men and some other unidentified people. The parking lot where the shooting occurred is not far from the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in the city's East Ward.

Detective Hubert Henderson, a police spokesman, said 23-year-old Charles Lee of East Orange was shot in the buttocks and throat. He was taken to University Hospital, where he died a short time later.

The other victim, whose name was not released, was shot in the throat and arm and remained hospitalized early Saturday night.

Further details on his condition were not immediately available.
