Nurse shot by 85-year-old patient

Danbury police are trying to determine why an elderly patient shot and wounded a male nurse on Tuesday.The shooting happened on the eighth floor of the hospital around 2:45 p.m.

Stanley Lupienski, age 85, of Brookfield was a patient at the hospital when he pulled out a gun when being approached by a male nurse for treatment.

The male nurse was shot three times. He remained in the hospital on Tuesday night, but his condition was not released.

A struggled ensued with security personnel in attempts to get the gun. During the struggle, Lupienski shot himself in the leg.

Lupienski is also in the hospital. His condition was also not released. He is under arrest and facing various weapons charges.

Bond is set at $250,000.

Danbury Hospital officials say they're continuing to admit and treat patients. The 12-floor hospital has nearly 400 beds and 4,000 employees.
