Two people killed by falling tree in Teaneck, NJ

TEANECK, NJ The victims, 49-year-old Ovadia Mussaffi and 54-year-old Lawrence Krause, were struck by a large oak tree around 7 p.m., county Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said Sunday.

Friends say the men were hit just minutes after they had left the Sephardic Congregation of Teaneck building. At the time, a nor'easter was battering the area with heavy rains and strong winds, which apparently brought down the tree.

Emergency responders soon arrived but could not get close to the scene because the tree knocked down power lines.

Mussaffi was the congregation's president, while Krause was the managing partner of Krause & Associates, a Manhattan-based personal injury law firm.
