Karbownik was pronounced dead at the scene.
The vehicle, a 2007 Chevy Trailblazer, that struck her left the scene. However, a piece of the bumper was left behind.
The vehicle was later located on North Pine Street in North Patchogue and was impounded, but are still looking for the driver.
Montauk Highway was closed for hours for the police investigation.
