Census response in Conn. cities low so far

HARTFORD Census officials say about half of the nation's households have mailed back their forms, but that the participation rate is significantly lower in parts of Connecticut.

Only about one in three Hartford residents has returned their Census questionnaires, and only 35 percent of the people in Bridgeport and New Haven have responded.

Census officials say that any household that hasn't returned a questionnaire by May will have to be visited by a census taker, and that drives up costs for the count.
