A 26-year-old Uniondale man was charged with running an ongoing bank scam, stealing at least $180,000 from Bank of America accounts. David Smith was charged with identity theft, grand larceny, and scheming to defraud.

He was arrested Tuesday and will be arraigned later today in Hempstead.

Smith, acting with others, managed to deduct small amounts from numerous Bank of America accounts through unauthorized online transfers, said authorities.

At least $180,000 was stolen in the scheme, although the total amount is believed to be much more.
