Service center worker takes Cadillac on joyride

TEANECK, NJ "This is part of my bucket list, my baby," Yvonne Thornton said.

Imagine Dr. Yvonne Thornton's surprise when hours after she dropped off her $90,000 car off to get squeaky breaks fixed, she gets a call from the NYPD that her car is in Washington Heights.

She is located in Teaneck, New Jersey, and she left it at Martin Cadillac in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey.

"The test drive included top down, music blasting all over the place, cigarettes on the side of the car, and they said with MD plates," said Thornton.

Thorton is a best-selling author and OB-GYN.

"His license was suspended, and he's crossing state lines," Thornton said exasperatedly.

Investigators told her police saw the MD plates, and scratched his head.

"All kudos to the 34th precinct," said a grateful Thornton.

Eyewitness News tried to get the owner of Martin Cadillac to explain on camera what happened, but he declined.

Later, he did talk to us on the phone.

Mr. Martin of Martin Cadillac said he feels just as violated by his service employee.

30-year-old Robert Garcia is now in jail.

Mr. Martin also added that Garcia is now fired as well.

Garcia apparently told Martin he had permission from Thornton to drive her car, but she told him otherwise.

"Did I give him permission to joyride in another state, and the answer is no!" said Thornton.

The good news is there are no scratches on the convertible caddy, and the speakers are fine.

Unfortunately, the brakes still squeak, and she says she is still waiting for an apology.
