Stoia pointed a .40-caliber pistol at police, but apparently didn't fire it before being shot once by an officer, Mohel said.
Stoia was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he was in critical but stable condition Sunday.
Stoia, a corrections officer at the Garden State Youth Correctional Facility in Yardville for about two years, faces several charges, including armed burglary and weapons offenses.
