2 dead in I-80 truck crash in Mount Olive

Two people, including an off-duty police officer, were killed when a truck crashed on eastbound Interstate 80 in Mount Olive Monday morning. The driver of the truck lost control in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 26 around 12:30 a.m. The truck careened out of control and may have flipped over.

The driver and a passenger were pronounced dead in the wreckage. One of the victims was identified as 24-year-old Brian Kern, a patrolman with the Andover Police Department

Two other passengers were injured and rushed to Morristown Memorial Hospital, where they were in serious but stable condition.

The eastbound lanes were closed for four hours before one lane was opened.

The crash is under investigation.
