Man arrested in deadly Roslyn Heights hit and run

Police on Long Island have arrested a 26-year-old East Hills resident in connection with a deadly hit and run in Roslyn Heights that killed an elderly woman. Authorities say Thomas Krauss was driving the car that hit 81-year-old Vaghar Giae as she crosed Warner Avenue Monday afternoon.

Giae, who was crossing with a cane and was thrown at least 75 feet by the impact, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Krauss is charged with leaving the scene of an accident with a death and leaving the scene of an incident without a report. Authorities say he was arrested after he took the car to an auto body shop and claimed the he was the victim of a hit and run. Police received a tip that led them to the mechanic.
