Paterson man accused of running fake dentistry

PATERSON, NJ "I didn't do nothing," said Pou.

As Pou left the Patterson Police Department Friday evening, he tried to hide his face and took off running when he saw our cameras.

He even turned around and waved at us if it was a joke.

But, the allegations against the 46-year-old aren't funny.

Investigators say he operated an unlicensed dental practice in the living room of a home on 24th Street for at least the last two months.

They say he charged bargain basement prices on cleanings, extractions and other services.

The owner of the home, 52-year-old Marta Peralta, is charged with conspiring with Pou, by allowing him to use her house.

The two women who answered the door, said they didn't know Pou or Peralta, and slammed the door.

"I saw the people with the vests, and they were running, swarming the house and they called more people over," described neighbor Adrienne Horton.

A search warrant was served on the home early Wednesday morning.

Police seized a large number of prescription drugs, dental instruments, and found bio-hazardous waste from a dental procedure, like teeth, blood, and tissue.

The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office says Pou either received training, or was once licensed in the Dominican Republic.

But, there is no record that he's ever been licensed by the Board of Dentistry in New Jersey.

Neighbors saw people come and go at night, but never thought much of it, until now.

"I'm bothered by it. I'm finding this out and it's a little troubling," neighbor Mandy Torres said.
