Fire Island Ferry Terminal plans

PATCHOGUE, NY Officials plan to unveil a new Fire Island ferry terminal in Patchogue on Sunday that includes two key features: an indoor waiting area and spacious bathrooms.

The $4.6 million terminal is built of pale olive cement board and includes solar panels to help power the building.

The new terminal replaces a rickety wooden building that housed a ticket counter.

Fire Island National Seashore Superintendent Chris Soller says officials hope the terminal will increase visitors and shopping. He says it's an investment in the community.
