Video shows no attention paid to dying homeless man

QUEENS As police searched for a killer, New Yorkers seemed to be searching their souls Monday.

Huge Tale-Yax was stabbed, staggered a few feet and collapsed on the sidewalk.

His injuries may or may not have been obvious.

For the next 90 minutes, the surveillance video captured at least two dozen people walking past him.

Daybreak brought even more people.

One man stopped just long enough to snap a picture with his cell phone, and someone else actually reached down, rolled the man over, and then left.

It is not clear who finally called 911, but by the time help arrived, it was too late.

What makes the situation even more tragic, Huge Tale-Yax was homeless. Investigators say he was most likely stabbed while trying to save a woman in a domestic dispute.

She escaped, apparently unharmed.

The killer took off into the night, and the callousness of New Yorkers, is now making headlines around the world.

The sad fact is, seeing homeless people passed-out, or sleeping, is not unusual in New York.

Eyewitness News found a man, face-down in Penn Station Monday afternoon. Dozens of people walked past the man.

New Yorkers, tourists, even the National Guard barely noticed him or didn't notice him at all.

A few minutes later, we approached the man.

He seemed startled, but insisted he was okay.
