Members of high school lacrosse team suspended

LONG ISLAND School officials say 15 players have been suspended for allegedly drinking.

Students at Ward Melville High School are learning a valuable lesson about the power of the internet. Star members of the lacrosse team were suspended after posting pictures of the team partying.

Nine players will sit out Tuesday's game against Smithtown and six others are suspended indefinitely. The superintendents statement reads "These students have been suspended for violations that took place on the weekend of April 16th, off school property at a private residence which involved the presence of alcohol."

Student athletes must sign a contract agreeing to abide by specific rules.

The lacrosse players were caught after someone printed the pictures from Facebook and handed them off to the coach.

At least one parent told Eyewitness News, they feel the school should not have jurisdiction over what students do off campus.
