Double murder outside Newark apartment complex

NEWARK The victims, identified as 32-year-old Shareef Burton and 38-year-old Alduha Davis, were held up as they were leaving or going to a local chicken restaurant on Ridgewood Avenue just after 1:15 a.m.

One man was shot in the head and the other shot in the stomach.

They were both rushed to University Hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

No arrests were immediately made.

Investigators believe robbery was the motive. They closed Ridgewood Avenue for hours for the investigation.

Newark has logged nine murders so far this month after going without a murder in March.
