Bandits posing as water workers rob woman

INWOOD Police say two suspects posed as water department workers and barged into the elderly woman's home in the Inwood section of Manhattan.

Police received a 911 call from the woman just after 7:00 p.m.

The two suspects told the woman they were there on behalf of the super because there was a water leak in the building. They told her they needed to check her pipes.

Investigators said after she let them inside, they put a towel over her face and forced her into the bathroom, where they held her at gunpoint.

Police said they demanded money, and she said she had some in the kitchen. They ransacked the place and got away with $50.

The suspects are described as Hispanic men - one heavy set and one with a medium build. The heavy set suspect might have been wearing an MTA baseball hat.

Fortunately, the victim wasn't injured.
