Three men were hospitalized after an early morning shooting outside a northern New Jersey bar. Paterson police officers who happened to patrolling near the Tropicana Palace Bar discovered the shooting around 2:25 a.m. Saturday, when they noticed a large crowed gathered outside the bar.

Witnesses there told them three city men had been shot and were taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Paterson.

Officials said 23-year-old Alexander Vargas was in critical condition.

But information on the other victims - Eugenio Javier and Juan Ortiz - was not immediately available. However, their wounds were not considered life-threatening.

It's not yet known what sparked the shooting. One suspect has been charged with weapons possession, but further details have not been disclosed.
