New Jersey officials say they're closely monitoring the bomb scare that shut down New York's Times Square for several hours this weekend. But they say there's no evidence to suggest there's any related threat in the Garden State.

A statement issued Sunday afternoon by the Christie administration said state police, homeland security officials and other agencies have been on a higher state of alert since police found the "amateurish" but potentially deadly bomb Saturday night. It apparently began to detonate but didn't explode in a smoking sport utility vehicle.

"We are in contact and coordinating with New York City authorities, and all relevant (New Jersey) authorities remain activated and vigilant," the statement said.
