NJ "closely monitoring" NYC car bomb scare

TRENTON, N.J. But they say there's no evidence to suggest there's any related threat in the Garden State.

A statement issued Sunday afternoon by the Christie administration said state police, homeland security officials and other agencies have been on a higher state of alert since police found the "amateurish" but potentially deadly bomb Saturday night. It apparently began to detonate but didn't explode in a smoking sport utility vehicle.

"We are in contact and coordinating with New York City authorities, and all relevant (New Jersey) authorities remain activated and vigilant," the statement said.
