Nassau Co. repeals calorie menu law

Fast food chains have been posting calories in Nassau County, not because they want to, but because they have to.

Legislators like David Denenberg say they voted in favor for their constituents.

"People are upset about childhood obesity and want to know what they're buying to eat," said Denenberg.

But members of the new Republican majority say a number of fast food restaurants complained, insisting the local law would conflict with Federal regulations, so Republicans repealed the bill.

"Education is key and so is parenting, so we need to combine the two," said Legislator Norma Gonsalves.

Those who frequent fast food chains say if you're eating it, you probably already know it is high in calories.

However, many believe it is valuable information, because there are some things that are deceptively high in calories.
