A Stamford man is dead after lightning struck a group of four fishermen on a Bridgeport jetty. Police said 29-year-old Romeo Briscoe was killed Saturday at about 11 a.m. after lightning hit his fishing pole, then traveled to his head and body.

Police said Briscoe and his friends saw lightning as they were fishing from the jetty at Seaside Park, and were headed back to shore when Briscoe was struck.

They say Briscoe was found just off the jetty, bleeding with his baseball cap split in half and clothes shredded.

The three other men, all from Stratford, were taken to Bridgeport Hospital and were expected to recover.
