Bail has been set at $3.5 million for a Newark man accused in the shooting deaths of four men slain during a six-month span last year. Ali Bass was arrested without incident Friday at a Kenilworth hotel, said Det. Todd McClendon, a Newark police spokesman. The 27-year-old faces numerous charges, including four counts of murder and several weapons offenses.

The first shooting happened in July 2009, when Bass allegedly killed two people in a drive-by shooting - including one man who was awaiting trial in the 2008 shooting death of Bass' younger sister - and wounded a third man.

The other slayings occurred in November and December.

Bass was being held Sunday in the Essex County Jail, and it was not known if he had retained a lawyer.
