Woman hospitalized after home invasion shooting

ROSELLE The suspect struck without warning, terrorizing a couple returning from a night out. Once it was all over, one victim suffered some very serious injuries.

Adaelburto Jimenez says he and his girlfriend had just returned to their Sheridan Avenue home in Roselle after an evening out drinking. He says she was relaxing inside while he was taking out the trash when a man approached him.

That's when Jimenez says the man forced him inside at gunpoint.

"He put the gun, he put it in my face," he said. "He said, 'Give me your money.' I said, 'I don't have no money.'"

Jimenez says his girlfriend, 27-year-old Laura Manganelli, didn't believe what was going on until she saw the gun. Jimenez says he was told to lay on the floor, and that's when he says the gunman made a move on Manganelli.

"That's when she got mad, and she swung," he said. "And that's when I got mad, and I got up so fast and I grabbed the chair and I swung it at him. And we fought all the way to the driveway, and you hear pow, pow, pow, pow, four times."

Manganelli was shot three times. She was rushed to University Hospital, where she is listed in stable condition and is awaiting surgery. Police say they are searching for the gunman.
