Middlesex County prosecutors are probing the circumstances surrounding the death of a toddler who became unresponsive at a day care center. He was only 17 months old.

So helpless, so tender, that by the time he was rushed to the Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy, it was too late.

An elderly neighbor watched in horror as paramedics tried to save his life.

"Maggie's Little School" is a day care center operating out of a private home on Parker Street in Perth Amboy.

On the residential street, there are signs highlighting that this is a day care facility.

Monday morning, 911 was called and the toddler, who lives in Cartaret, was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Neighbors who did not want to be identified say Maggie, the woman who runs the school, has experience babysitting.

Police and the Medical Examiner are still trying to determine if it was accidental, murder, negligence or a medical condition.
